My day at Rock en Seine and my crazy night at Arctic Monkeys’ show

Festival Rock en Seine 2014

Rock en Seine enfin ! On est vendredi, ma valise est bouclée pour partir à Paris rejoindre Pauline. Nous attendons cet événement depuis de longs mois…. Même si mon voyage en train n’est pas long, j’ai prévu des compagnons de route de bons livres et mes playlists.

N’hésitez pas à écouter mes playlists, elles contiennent mes morceaux préférés, mes artistes préférés et les singles qui me donnent la pêche ! La musique que j’écoute dépend de mon humeur, tout comme les livres que je lis, en anglais c’est plus intéressant. Mes achats pour l’occasion (photos en dessous et playlists en haut)

Impossible de rester sans musique et sans lecture, c’est absolument hors de question ! Je sais déjà que le lendemain matin, une longue attente est prévue avant mon retour à la maison.

Voilà les deux choses essentielles à mon quotidien, il paraissait naturel qu’elles fassent parties du voyage. Après Rock en Seine en août à Paris, le prochain voyage c’est l’Angleterre fin novembre, pays de la plupart de mes groupes et artistes préférés !

Rock en Seine at last ! It’s Friday morning, my luggage is ready to go to Paris and meet my friend Pauline. We’ve been waiting so long time for this event. My trip by train isn’t even so long but I provide “travelmates “: good books and my playlists. Don’t hesitate to listen to it; there are my favorite singles, artists and albums in it. I’m on top form when I listen some of it. Music depends on my moodlike books I read.It’s more interestingin English. Look at my last purchases (photos below and playlists above)

Impossible to stay without music and reading.It’s definitely out of question! On the way back, the day after, I’ll wait for a long time before being back home. In my daily life, these two things are essentials. That’s why it seemed natural it would be part of the trip.

After Rock en Seine in august in Paris, next trip is over England by the end of november. It’s the country of the most of my favorite bands and artists.

Premier concert : Blondie

Le premier concert pour nous à Rock en Seine, bien que l’on soit passé à côté de set qui avaient déjà débuté et dont nous avons profité. Blondie et sa mythique chanteuse Deborah Harry, elle a toujours autant de talent et de pep’s ainsi que présence scénique. Le groupe était au top même si la météo était quelque peu changeante mais le public était plus réceptif. Comment ne pas l’être par une formation telle que celle-ci qui affiche ses 40 ans de carrière et dont les titres ne prennent pas une ride ? Il n’y avait qu’à être présent au moment du très fameux « Call me » ! La foule était tout simplement saisie de frénésie, s’en sont suivi les titres « Euphoria », « A rose by any name » et « Rapture ». Une setlist au top, si je puis dire et un public de tous âges et de tous horizons.

Je dis cela car je suis concernée, ma première écoute ? J’avais 8 ans et c’était le titre Atomic, mon père est un fan de la première heure alors j’ai baigné dedans très jeune. Aux premières notes du morceau, je l’ai reconnu que de souvenirs me sont revenus en mémoires. Mes premières amours musicales ! Je salue la performance de ce groupe génial qui a su se réinventer au fil des années, tout en inspirant les jeunes générations d’artistes. Le coffret Blondie (4)0 ever est sorti le 12/05/14, on y retrouve tous leurs plus grands succès ré-enregistrés mais aussi un nouvel opus « Ghost of download » sur lequel se trouve une collaboration avec Beth Ditto.

For us, it was the first show at Rock en seine, even though we’ve gone past other artists set which had already started and that we enjoyed. Blondie, with its mythic singer Deborah Harry, still got much talent, scenic presence and she’s so dynamic ! The band was definitely on the top even if the weather wasn’t with us; but the crowd was more than receptive. How can’t we appreciate this kind of band with its 40 years career and whose songs never grow old ? You just need to be with us when the famous « Call me » was playing on stage. People were struck by frenzy.Other songs like « Euphoria », « A rose by any name » and « Rapture » had followed. If I can tell, the setlist was more than good and with an all ages and all horizons audience.

I say that because I feel concerned… My first listening ? I was 8 years old and it was Atomic song. My father is a great fan of them, so I have soaked in their music since I was very young. I recognized it on thefirst notes of the song and a lot of memories came back to my mind. My first musical loving ! I greet this great band’s performance who knew along years to reinvent itself, inspiring youngest generations of artists too. Blondie (4)0 ever casket is out since May 12th of 2014. Inside, we find all their great success remastered and a new one too called « Ghost of Download » with Beth Ditto contribution (Gossip). So sit down, listen and enjoy !

AM cinquième album studio sorti le 9/09/13. Il contient les collaborations de Josh Homme (Queen of the stone age) et Bill Ryder ainsi que celle de John Cooper Clarke qui a participé à l’écriture de « I wanna be yours ». Produit par James Ellis Ford (Compositeur, producteur et musicien britannique). Il a produit entre autres un album qui a reçu un Mercury Prize, Myth of the near futures des Klaxons et celui des Last PuppetShadows (Miles Kane et Alexander Turner) dont il est aussi le batteur sur l’album The Age of Understatement. Il est aussi un membre de Simian Mobile Disco.

Une ambiance feutrée et planante en nuance de noir et blanc qui vous prend aux tripes dès les premières notes. Une ballade envoutante avec « I wanna be yours » jusqu’au fabuleux « R U mine ? » qui vous transporte dans un rythme effréné. Un univers sensuel et entêtant comme le parfum capiteux d’une starlette d’Hollywood des années 60. A écouter sans modération mais attention, le risque d’addiction est élevé !

J’attendais le concert avec impatience car j’étais curieuse de voir si cela me prendrait aux tripes comme lors de la première écoute de AM … J’étais loin du compte, une émotion indescriptible m’a transpercé lorsque les premières notes de « Do I wanna know » ont retenties. Mon cœur battait au rythme de la batterie et des frissons me saisissaient à chaque riff de guitare. Pour moi, la musique s’écoute mais elle va plus loin qu’un simple son agréable à l’oreille, elle traduit une émotion profonde (ce que je dis n’engage que moi, vous pouvez me prendre pour une illuminée et/ou une amoureuse de la musique, peu n’importe !)

Ils ont enchainé sur « Brianstorm » et « Dancing shoes » mais lorsque j’ai entendu « Arabella », j’ai plongé littéralement au cœur d’AM dans un univers rock’n roll où tous les excès sont permis. J’attendais le solo de guitare d’Alexander en impatiente que je suis et j’ai quelque peu trépigné quand il a tardé à arriver. Le set, a continué avec quelques morceaux d’anciens albums comme « Don’t sit down ‘cause I moved your chair », « Teddy Picker », le cultissime « Crying Lightening » et bien d’autres. J’ai écouté religieusement quand est arrivé, une de mes préférées « Knee Socks ». L’apogée pour moi, a été dans un premier temps lors de « N°1 party anthem » et je n’ai pas pu retenir mes larmes quand Matthew derrière sa batterie a lancé « I wanna be yours ». Cette chanson me déchire le cœur en deux que ce soit la mélodie ou les paroles en elles-mêmes. Que dire de plus sinon que la collaboration avec John Cooper Clarke sur ce morceau est tout simplement sublime. Nous avons la preuve que comme l’a dit Alexander (Alex) Turner, le rock’n roll ne mourra jamais (mais ne maltraite pas un autre micro pour cela s’il te plait…) Merci beaucoup les gars pour ce super concert !

AM, fifth studio album out on September the 9th, 2013, it contains Josh Homme (Queen of the stone age), Bill Ryder collaboration as John Cooper Clarke who took part of « I wanna be yours » writing. Produced by James Ellis Ford. (British musician, producer and composer) He’s produced an album which had got a Mercury Prize, Myth of the Near Future of Klaxons and this for Last Puppet Shadows (Miles Kanes and Alexander Turner) although he’s the drummer on the album The Age of Understatemen. He’s a member of Simian Mobile Disco too.

It makes me think of an old black and white movie with a dark atmosphere which takes you right there from the first notes. A bewitched ballade with « I wanna be yours » until fabulous « R U mine ? » which takes you to a frantic race. A sensual and heady universe like the perfume of 60’s actress of Hollywood. To listen without moderation but be careful, it’s a very addictive album.

I was waiting the show with eagerness because I was curious to know if it would take me right there, like when I’ve listened AM for the first time. I was very long way short to the target, an indescribable emotion has gone through me when the first notes of « Do I wanna know ? » has rung. My heart was beating on drums rythm and I was seized by thrills on every guitar’s riff. For me, we’re listening music but it’s more than a lovely sound to my ear, it translates a deep emotion. (That’s what I’m thinking about it. You can see me as a crank and/or a music lover, whatever).

They kept playing on « Brianstorm »and « Dancing shoes ». But when I’ve listened the beginning of « Arabella », I‘ve literally burried in the heart of AM in it’s rock’n roll universe where all excess is allowed. I’ve waited for Alexander’s guitar part, eager as I am ! I’ve stamped my feet when it came a little bit later. The set has gone on with a few songs from formers albums like « Don’t sit down ‘cause I’ve moved your chair », « Teddy Picker », the very famous « Crying Lightening » and some others. Then, I have listened carefully when it came to « Knee Socks », one of my favorites. I’ve sung it without forgetting any lyrics. The apogee for me, was when I heard « N°1 Party Anthem ».I just couldn ‘t stop myself crying when Matthew has started « I wanna be yours »,behind his drums. This song is breaking my heart, whatever melody or lyrics are concerned. What more can I say except that Alexander Turner and John Cooper Clarke’s collaboration on this song is just sublime.

As Alexander (Alex) Turner says Rock’n roll will never die. (But don’t ill-treat another microphone for that, please…) Thank you so much guys for this really great show !
